Storytelling at the Beach

It has been pouring rain since the early hours of this morning and as I sit snuggled on the lounge watching a movie with my kids, I've decided to reorganise some of my past sessions and thought this was the perfect day to share this one.

We will be back to our mild beach days before we know it- I can smell the salt air as I type this!

In the meantime, have a little escape from the cold and rainy reality of winter with this fun family session.

Originally from Camden, NSW, the Carpenter family had recently relocated to beautiful Kiama and this amazing beach is literally in their backyard. Their gallery perfectly highlights the direction of my sessions- I start with a few posed images (the ones for the Christmas card 😉) and then I offer a few suggestions to create a natural vibe for you. I alternate between a variety of poses and a natural flow into just being yourselves.

Some families request more posed images and that is completely okay. I love to do a mix of both and can easily provide more or less direction, depending on your own style.

Some of my favourite captures of my own children are posed, big grins, looking at the camera and some of my favourite captures are also of my children laughing and oblivious to the camera being present.

The Carpenter family wanted minimal posing, and weren't worried if we didn't capture anything posed. We decided to start with a few posed images and the rest of their session naturally progressed as they spent the hour just exploring the beach, being silly, using their imagination, and just being in the moment together.

I have a number of beautiful locations in the Macarthur NSW region that are perfect for exploring- we're very fortunate to have so many beautiful areas in our own backyard in addition to the coast being less than an hour away.

The best thing about memories, is making them!
