My heart is bursting. I did a trial run for my Motherhood Minis last week because I wanted to make sure my vision was absolutely perfect. Simple, timeless and beautiful with the main focus still being on Mums and their babies. (Both big and little babies- my 12 year-old is still my baby ;) )
I also styled every Mama and babe who came through yesterday and will be offering this in addition to full access to my client wardrobe!

I often come up with ideas for my mini sessions a year or more in advance and sometimes I do something completely different and revisit that idea the following year. I've had this particular vision in my mind since before last Mother's Day and this year it just felt right and everything came together to make it a reality.
Location with mini sessions can be tricky because they usually take place over several hours or more, which means the sun is constantly changing position. I needed to be mindful of somewhere that would still filter beautiful light without being too sunny/shady at any point.
I spent several days driving around and checking the light at different spots at different times of the day and some locations would have been perfect for the setting but the sun was far too bright. In the end, I ended up back at the same location I did my Christmas mini sessions in December. It's located minutes from Camden, NSW on a beautiful reserve with plenty of open space, tall trees, grass, plenty of parking space and has beautifully filtered shade most of the day. Ticks all of the boxes!
It's still a challenge to bring a vision to life because it rarely, if ever looks exactly like how you picture it in your head. My goal is for it to look even better than what I envision and if it doesn't then I change it until it does. Simplicity was key with this set-up because if I added too much to it, then it would distract from the natural backdrop and not suit the vibe I was going for at all.

Once I set it up with my daughter and photographed a few test shots, I was giddy with excitement because I knew I had nailed it. Cue massive sigh of relief!
At the same time, I also had a number of beautiful new dresses I had purchased for my client wardrobe that I wanted photographed. I decided to do a model call and combine it with a trial run for my mini sessions. I had a number of my previous clients come out with their children to try my dresses and have some fun making memories with their kids.
The actual run of the mini sessions went perfectly and I was so happy with everything and I'm already so excited for the "official" sessions I am holding at the same spot in Camden, NSW at the end of April- just in time for Mother's Day.

Behind the scenes though, what a disaster! An otherwise sunny and hot day brought a few scattered strong gusts of wind that were just strong enough to fully twist my backdrop into a knot, knock over my flowers, knock over the racks that were holding all of my dresses (admittedly I had overloaded them) but a "normal" gust of wind wouldn't have affected them, my change room tent kept blowing away (my fault for forgetting the pegs, I have never needed them before now though) and lastly, my mirror was knocked over and even though it landed face down on the grass it fully shattered into a million pieces. What a day!
The photos speak for themselves though and I am so grateful and happy for what I was able to create.
I still have a handful of sessions remaining for the 29th and 30th of April. If you are a Mum from the Camden, NSW area reading this, take it as your sign to book a session and capture some memories with your children.
